Background

Dr.D. Nirmal is an Professor, Associate Dean-School of Engineering & Technology and head in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at the Karunya Institute of Technology and Sciences. He received his Ph.D degree in Information and Communication Engineering from Anna University, India. His research interest includes Nanoelectronics, VLSI Design, Optoelectronics and Device fabrication. Dr.Nirmal is the author of many Refereed international journals (Elsevier, Taylor and Francis, Wiley, Hindawi and DRDO) and conferences for his highest level of achievement. He is a Chair of IEEE ED Coimbatore Chapter. He has been awarded as Shir.P.K.Das Memorial Best Faculty Award in the Year 2013. He has received best High impact factor journal publication Award from Karunya University in 2012. Dr.Nirmal is Editor of Microelectronics Journal Elsevier publisher form 2014. Dr.Nirmal also a reviewer and the editorial board member of many International refereed Journals. He has delivered many lecture in National and International Level. He is a Senior member of IEEE, Life Member of IETE,Member SSI , Member ISTE and VSI Societies. He was invited to chair several international conference/workshop programs and sessions.

    Teaching

    The contagious energy share in the classroom brings new ideas and clarity of thought to my research. But the aspect of teaching I have come to cherish the most is the feeling of restoring hope and giving direction to struggling students.

    My biggest challenge is to inspire students to focus on studying our course material by explaining first-hand its practical benefits with clear, real-life examples and case studies. Many students feel lost, swept up in searching for their place in society and purpose in life, and this at-times overwhelming philosophical venture can easily dampen their enthusiasm for the learning experience. To keep them grounded and on-track for success, I balance lecture with discussion and group work.

    Our society can improve the lives of future generations by better preparing them for holistic success. This effort demands refining our pedagogy, and ultimately our education system. I therefore hope to continue teaching, as well as advancing personal research projects, to contribute to social progress and the betterment of our world.
